Sky Blues to make surprise manager move?

Amidst all of the usual names being bandied about for the Coventry City manager's job it seems as though the Sky Blues are set to spring a surprise with an approach to Oxford United for Chris Wilder, the man who took the U's back into the Football League.

It's an interesting move for City to take as it indicates they are prepared to pay compensation if they feel Wilder is the right man for the job.

Having sacked Andy Thorn for, in their words, failing to get the best out of a 'hand-picked' squad with nine new faces added over the summer (and a 10th since Thorn's departure) surely Wilder (or whoever is named the new boss) will be expected as much as possible to work with the players he inherits.

Whether that will also stretch to the current caretaker management team of Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley remains to be seen as developments in the great CCFC soap opera continue to move on apace.

***Update***Wilder continues to be backed on Tuesday to take the job despite no official approach having been made as yet.
