Third Sky Blue signing as veteran is dealt in

Sentences you didn't think you would be writing.

Coventry City have completed their third signing of the week after agreeing a one-year contract with 35-year-old Irish legend Kevin Kilbane.

Vastly experienced from his time with Everton and Sunderland among others, Kilbane has been training with the Sky Blues since they reported back for pre-season training at the weekend.

Providing an option at both left-back and on the left side of midfield, the signing was met with delight from Andy Thorn.

He told the official CCFC website: 'Not only will he be an asset on the pitch, he will be a big player in the dressing room too.'

The signing of older players has proved mixed for City over the years with every Dennis Wise counterbalanced by a Tim Sherwood but Kilbane is reported to be in top-notch condition and complements nicely the ages of the two players signed earlier in the week.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle meanwhile is reporting that Newcastle United are within reach of a deal to sign Sky Blues youngster Gael Bigirimana.
