'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Barnsley boss 'optimistic' of Norwood deal

A wanted man at Coventry City after his loan spell with the Sky Blues last season, midfielder Oliver Norwood has been offered a deal by Barnsley after his decision not to stay at Manchester United.

'We're optimistic but we need to make sure we strike a financial balance,' Tykes boss Keith Hill told BBC Radio Sheffield.

'He represents good value for money. He can be creative, he can score goals and he can play in a two-man midfield.'

Vital View: Landing Norwood would be a real sign that the Sky Blues are serious about gaining promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt but the stark reality of the situation is that Barnsley's offer gives him the chance of second-tier football and the increased exposure that goes with it.

For a player looking to make his way after taking the big step to leave Manchester United and also to build a career in international football that will be hard to turn down.
