Sky Blues against…the basement boys

Coventry City`s record against their fellow bottom six sides was one of solid home form coupled with abject away results.

Nottingham Forest, playing their first game following the departure of Steve McClaren, were beaten 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena in October but gained a crucial three points with a 2-0 win in February`s return fixture.

Similarly, the Sky Blues` ended an 11-game run without a victory following the Forest win by edging past Bristol City on Boxing Day but suffered a hugely damaging defeat in their make or break relegation clash at Ashton Gate.

Barnsley eased to victory in their home clash with City in October but were undone by Clive Platt`s injury-time winner at the Ricoh in February as good home results kept alive hopes of a great escape for Andy Thorn`s men.

Portsmouth were also the victims of that a few weeks later in a six-pointer in CV6 after taking the spoils at Fratton Park in December.

The only results to buck the trend were those against Doncaster Rovers with City earning a point at the Keepmoat Stadium before their relegation was confirmed by defeat in the final home game of the season.

Games played 10, points gained 13, points per game 1.3.
