City boss delighted with McSheffrey

Andy Thorn has challenged Gary McSheffrey to play a key role in ensuring survival for Coventry City after the local hero turned in yet another excellent display against Brighton & Hove Albion on New Year's Eve.

'Gary McSheffrey showed two real pieces of quality in the final third and that it is what we have been lacking,' said the Ricoh Arena boss after watching his side make it two wins out of two over the festive period.

McSheffrey was much more influential against Bristol City on Boxing Day and continued that form into the Seagulls game, scoring the first and setting up Lukas Jutkiewicz for a nerve-calming second.

'Gary has Premier League quality, we know that,' added Thorn.

'That's not him finished for the season, we need him to go right through to the very end for us.'

Brighton manager Gus Poyet felt his side did not do enough to get a result and bemoaned the Seagulls' lack of sharpness in front of goal.
