Sky Blues 2011 highlights (1)
In a feat of optimism well suited to the time of year Vital Coventry has managed to eke the Sky Blues' 2011 highlights out to TWO separate articles.
We start in February when a long run of games without a win was finally ended with a victory over Crystal Palace at the Ricoh Arena. Well-placed at Christmas, Aidy Boothroyd's side had started to slide alarmingly down the table in the new year as opponents got to grips with a team that had caused a few surprises in the opening months of the season.
That solitary win did little to help Boothroyd in the long-run and when he was axed in March, the travelling City fans heading up to Burnley were probably not placing too much faith in the ability of chief scout Andy Thorn to turn things around.
However, a dramatic tactical change paid dividends as the Sky Blues threw off their shackles and matched their opponents all the way to give hope for the remaining weeks of the season.
And that hope was justified as Thorn continued to inspire his players to new heights, helped by the Premier League quality of one Marlon King, who showed his importance to the team with a double strike against Millwall to secure Championship football for another year.
