'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Down and out at London Road

Andy Thorn, having made clear earlier in the week his unease with what is happening behind the scenes at Coventry City Football Club, was left to rue bad luck and bad refereeing decisions after seeing his side lose by a single goal at Peterborough United on Saturday.

The failure to give a spot-kick for handball was his main cause for ire while Gary Gardner and Lukas Jutkiewicz's late chances were, for the manager, typical of the kind of fortune currently being experienced by the Sky Blues.

Thorn said: 'It was as blatant a penalty as I've ever seen.

'I saw it again on camera after the game and that just confirmed my view so I spoke to the referee.

'He has not even disputed the fact the ball hit their lad's hand but told me he couldn't give it because the ball has been blasted at him. I'm sorry, but I just can't accept that.

'And what happened at the end - with us hitting the post and the clearance off the line just proves that nothing is going for us at any level of the club.'

City's long-suffering travelling fans once again saw a committed display from the men in Coventry shirts but went home knowing that even wins on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve are unlikely to lift their side off the foot of the Championship table.

Usually the end of the year approaching is a chance to start afresh and hope for better things to come but the fear gripping all of a Sky Blue persuasion is that, even after a mere six league wins in 2011, the worst is yet to come.
