City boss to get loan backing at last?

Andy Thorn, having said that 'in an ideal world' Coventry City 'would have five or six more players' may at least get one new signing to bolster his threadbare squad, which is showing signs of cracking under the strain of a 46-game Championship season.

Tuesday night's heavy defeat at Millwall has sparked the first real debate amongst Sky Blues' supporters as to Thorn himself and whether he is continuing to get the best out of the meagre resources at his disposal but the vast majority recognise that without proper backing it is very hard to criticise the manager's record to date.

And the Den debacle looks to have jolted the club hierarchy into action too as Thorn has said that he has been given the go-ahead to make a loan signing as he prepares his side for successive home games against the Championship's top two, starting with Southampton this weekend.

An experienced attacking midfielder or striker would seem to be the most pressing need and, mindful of the need for results to improve quickly, Thorn may have to dive headlong into a market he wouldn't normally be shopping in, suppressing his (commendable) desire to blood young players.

'I want to bring in a winner,' he told the official club website on Thursday. Let's hope he can find one.
