'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coventry City latest

With Gael Bigirimana suspended for Saturday's game against Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium at least one change will be required for Coventry City but, having expressed his displeasure at the way a winning lead was thrown away against Burnley last Saturday, manager Andy Thorn may opt to shuffle his meagre resources around a bit more.

Gary McSheffrey and Carl Baker were joined by James McPake and Gary Deegan in a reserve team fixture against Leicester on Tuesday but balanced against that Richard Wood has suffered a knock.

Freddy Eastwood, the subject of a loan enquiry from Bournemouth last week, netted in the game at Leicester, a 3-1 win for a Sky Blues side who were guided by Lee Carsley as he helps out Thorn and Steve Harrison with coaching duties.

'frozen'

Eastwood remains frozen out of the first team picture but there were encouraging signs of a partnership developing between Cody McDonald and Lukas Jutkiewicz on Saturday and, having netted his first goal for the Sky Blues, McDonald looks set to be fit for the trip to Donny after suffering a knee injury.

Thorn has backed his only outfield signing since taking charge to take confidence from that first goal and become a big hit at the Ricoh Arena.

Saturday's opponents have cut short former City keeper Chris Kirkland's loan spell due to injury and so the visitors are likely to come up against veteran custodian Neil Sullivan, now 41 and back in the Doncaster starting line up.

Kirkland's injuries really have prevented him playing for a top club and England. Hard to see him getting more than a pay-as-you play deal next time
