City boss calm on new striker

Andy Thorn believes that his deadline day signing Cody McDonald will snap up chances like the ones he missed against Ipswich on Monday night when he is at full match fitness.

Having netted 25 goals for Gillingham last season, McDonald moved from Norwich to the Ricoh Arena at the end of August and created a good impression against Derby County on his debut. At Portman Road on Monday night he was unlucky to see a well-directed header cleared off the line but should have done better with a clear chance after the break.

Rightly, Thorn concentrated on the fact that McDonald was in the right position when the chances came along and his partnership with Lukas Jutkiewicz looks like showing signs of promise. In the meantime however it may be no surprise to see Roy O'Donovan restored to the starting line-up on Saturday.

Elsewhere Thorn is likely to shuffle his pack for the visit of Reading, having felt that the Ipswich game was 'one too many' for the likes of Gael Bigirimana, the youngster having been taken out of the firing line before half-time with his side two goals down and on the rack.

Cody will do the business. The header that was cleared off the line was a great piece of play.
