£3m-rated Jutkiewicz fast becoming a key man

Interest in striker Lukas Jutkiewicz from elsewhere in the Championship has been a recurring theme of the summer for Coventry City and reports on Monday suggest that Burnley have had a £1.5m bid knocked back as being only half of the valuation placed on him by the Sky Blues.

As with Sammy Clingan it appears as though the club are standing firm in their determination to keep a player who will be key to City keeping their heads above water or better in the forthcoming season after getting better and better throughout his debut campaign.

'scary'

The thought of being without Jutkiewicz is a scary one for Andy Thorn but he is already having to contemplate that scenario on a short-term basis as the frontman is a doubt for Saturday's big opening clash with Leicester City having suffered a dead leg in the weekend friendly with Norwich.

Thorn is frantically looking for attacking reinforcements as is, with slightly more ready cash at his disposal, his opposite number for next weekend Sven Goran Eriksson.

The likes of Nicky Maynard, Shane Long and Robbie Keane are being linked with the Foxes with Eriksson saying: 'We are working on different targets and I am not sure if something will happen before next Saturday or not. But sooner or later it will.'
