'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Keys voice not needed in CCFC takeover saga

In terms of the Public Relations battle for Coventry City Football Club, Gary Hoffman and his allies have an open goal to aim at and they seem to be increasing the frequency of the shots they are taking against the hapless Sisu.

To that end, Friday's Telegraph carried a couple of news stories about any potential bid for the club.

Firstly Hoffman has assured us that he gave the dodgy businessman featured in Monday night's Dispatches programme a wide berth when asked about City.

Secondly, former Sky TV anchor Richard Keys has lent his weight to the Hoffman cause with a plea for the investors ('who I know personally') to get a hearing from the current owners.

'bothered'

As Sisu, in the shape of Paul Clouting, have said, Hoffman is a serious figure through his position at Northern Rock and his interest in the club does not need puffing up by a 'lifelong City fan' who basically hasn't been bothered to come down to the Ricoh Arena in recent seasons because the team have been a bit naff and the owners aren't very good (which Keys knew all along according to his interview).

At present those owners can still turn around to Hoffman (or anybody else interested) and say that they have not received a formal bid for the club for them to say yes or no to.

In the meantime, those 'missing' fans who can afford it and have their weekends free (which certainly includes Mr Keys) should be at as many home games as they can whether the club has been taken over or not. Only then will their credentials as a 'lifelong fan' be backed up by something more substantial and maybe, be worth listening to.

The attendance for Sisu's first game was just over 19,000 so the 'missing' fans were missing even then. They haven't run the club into ground but have been unable to stop the decline. Maybe if more people who claimed a lifelong allegiance to the club and could afford it bothered to turn up to the Ricoh now and again we would be a more viable proposition to investors and more successful on the pitch.
