'If It's Football, It's Vital'

O'Donovan attitude strikes right tone

No complaints, no grudges and no expectations. Just keeping himself ready and waiting for the chance to finally make an impresson as a Coventry City player.

That was the tone of Roy O'Donovan's after-match interview following his brace against Nuneaton Town in the Sky Blues' opening pre-season friendly on Saturday.

It's a long way of course from two goals against non-league opposition to getting a regular game in the Championship but, given the fact that he was so farcically sidelined for the whole of last season (when O'Donovan surely set a record for the longest time ever spent on the bench) it is good to hear the player's attitude and it seems to be symbolic of the spirit that currently exists in the City camp.

Saturday's game like all friendlies had both positive and negative points for Andy Thorn to chew on but he would have been pleased that his preferred diamond system seems to be one that a number of players, including some of the Sky Blues' talented youngsters can slot into easily.

And O'Donovan, who described his game as 'over ten yards on the shoulders of defenders' may fit that description as well given the number of chances that were created under Thorn in the final ten games of last season.
