'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coventry City latest

'He is a fantastic leader on and off the field but most of all he is a terrific footballer who loves this club,' said manager Andy Thorn after naming Sammy Clingan as the new Sky Blues captain for the upcoming season.

The Northern Ireland international midfielder has impressed since moving to the Ricoh Arena and made himself the pivotal figure in Thorn's revamped system after the departure of Aidy Boothroyd.

-Thorn has also praised Keiren Westwood's handling of his contract situation after the goalkeeper confirmed what many already knew and announced he was leaving City to join Sunderland on a free transfer.

'It is nice to have some clarity on the situation and now we can move on,' was Thorn's verdict.

-A statue of Jimmy Hill will be unveiled at the Ricoh Arena on 28 July as part of a family fun day announced by the Sky Blues.

-Freed defender Stephen O'Halloran is on trial at Carlisle United.
