Coventry City manager Andy Thorn declared himself 'relaxed` about the decision by Marlon King to snub a new contract offer with the Sky Blues and opt instead to join Championship rivals Birmingham City. Thorn believes he has good options already at the club and is also looking at potential new signings.
With the Sky Blues likely to go back now to the transfer blueprint that was in place when Thorn first arrived as chief scout that means young, hungry players from either the same division or lower are likely to be on his radar.
Billy Sharp of Doncaster Rovers and Craig Mackail-Smith of Peterborough United will both have their suitors this summer but are likely to be out of City`s price range. Iain Hume was impressive in a poor Preston side last season but has pledged his future to the Deepdale club and doesn`t quite fit the 'young` part of the previous equation.
'hinting'
In League One, two products of the Ipswich Town youth system are set to be on the move this summer with Dean Bowditch having turned down a new deal at Yeovil and Jordan Rhodes hinting at leaving Huddersfield following their play-off final defeat.
Rhodes would command a decent fee but Bowditch, extremely well-thought of as a youngster and now having benefitted from regular football for the past two seasons, may feel he can succeed in the Championship given a second chance.
One division lower, both Clayton Donaldson and Cody McDonald have already been mentioned in despatches as potential City signings while Adam Le Fondre has been a regular goalscorer at that level for some season and may be ready for the chance to impress at a higher level.
