City right to look at signing two keepers
Coventry City are set to replace departing goalkeeper Keiren Westwood with not one but two custodians who will battle it out for the first-team jersey at the Ricoh Arena next season.
Joe Murphy of Scunthorpe United, a veteran of over 300 games and long linked with the Sky Blues, is poised to come in on a free transfer as Westwood's direct replacement but boss Andy Thorn also wants Chris Dunn, Northampton Town's 24-year-old stopper, whose contract also expires this summer although compensation would be due to the Cobblers.
It is a testimony to Westwood that he kept his own high standards up despite a distinct lack of competition for his own place over the past few seasons but Thorn is right to feel that having two goalkeepers at the club who are both capable of starting in the Championship provides for a healthier scenario.
