2010/11 key moments: Barnsley battered

Coventry City during Aidy Boothroyd`s short-lived reign as manager were always consistent in terms of their performance levels if not always in terms of results.

They never plumbed the depths of some performances under previous bosses but never hit the heights either. Only Bristol City beat the Sky Blues by more than two goals while only Barnsley suffered a similar fate at the hands of Boothroyd`s boys.

The Tykes came to the Ricoh Arena in late October knowing that they had the highly unusual tag of being a bogey team for Coventry City and went away having succumbed to another defeat at an unhappy hunting ground.

Gary McSheffrey opened the scoring after nine minutes with a goal that gave a glimpse of how Boothroyd`s favoured style of play could be devastatingly effective as Clive Platt nodded down a long clearance into McSheffrey`s path for a crisp finish into the far corner.

The result was in doubt until late goals from Carl Baker and Jordan Clarke but what was telling was were the comments of Barnsley manager Mark Robins after the game as he admitted his side had been 'bullied` out of it.

City moved into the top six but as with a number of opponents that they had caused problems for in the opening months of the season, Barnsley were better prepared for what to expect by the time the sides met at Oakwell in January.
