City look for FA Cup cheer

The FA Cup always has a special place in the hearts of Coventry City fans and around 6,000 will make the short trip to St Andrews on Saturday for the 4th Round clash with Birmingham City.

The competition has provided the majority of the (few) bright moments that the Sky Blues have had over the past decade, notably the wins over Blackburn both at Ewood Park and the Ricoh Arena and also the Chelsea tie which attracted a record crowd to the club's new home.

And after a poor run of form over the past month, Aidy Boothroyd will be looking for a boost from Saturday's tie in which he has promised to send out a full-strength side.

In contrast, the Sky Blues will be hoping that Blues are still suffering the effects of a long night against West Ham on Wednesday and the subsequent celebrations after securing their place in the League Cup final. With a relegation battle also on their minds, the FA Cup is now likely to be at the bottom of Alex McLeish's list of priorities.

Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph: 'We have to take care of ourselves and if they do have a hangover we have got to take advantage of it and if they don't we have got to make sure we are ready for their strengths, which are many.'

McLeish however made a host of changes for the 3rd Round tie at Millwall and still saw his side brush past their Championship opponents.
