CCFC: Westwood holds all the transfer aces

'We have had a number of Premier League clubs show an interest in him,' confirmed Coventry City chairman Ray Ranson on Thursday as the Keiren Westwood transfer saga shows signs of coming to an end.

All the signs at present seem to point to the player being sold in January as the Sky Blues promotion ambitions have taken a knock in recent weeks.

At the age of 26 this will be the big move of Westwood's career, the one that could and should set him up financially for life.

Having worked his way up to this position he holds all the aces in this particular transfer battle and is right to be playing his cards close to his chest, knowing that his current club would love to keep him and that plenty in the top-flight are keen to have him.

The Sky Blues will come in for a certain amount of flak whatever they do. Sell Westwood now and they will be accused of giving up on the rest of the season. Keep him until the summer and they run the risk of him leaving for free.

The club however have done all they can, putting a good contract offer on the table initially and now considering carefully any bids that come in.
