Battling City end run of defeats

Coventry City responded well to a half-time deficit and the dismissal of Marlon King to earn a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on New Year's Day and avoid a fourth successive league defeat.

King had begun the second-half by expertly setting up Freddy Eastwood for the equalising goal and the striker had again looked like City's stand-out performer before a harsh looking red card was dished out as he chased up a poor touch and brought an Ipswich defender to the ground.

The Sky Blues had struggled to find their feet in the opening 45 minutes but after the break showed many of the qualities that have made them a top ten team going into 2011.

Aidy Boothroyd's side pressed Ipswich much further up the field and never let their opponents settle into a rythym, even when the visitors held a man advantage.

City now end a hectic series of games with a trip to happy hunting ground Oakwell on Monday.
