Championship: Transfer Latest (2)

The New Year brings with it the opening of the transfer window and a host of activity in the Championship as clubs look to strengthen for the second half of the season and also wait for bids from the Premier League for their star men.

Wolves, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Sunderland are all keeping tabs on defender David Wheater's contract situation at Middlesbrough although the local boy remains adamant he will stay until the end of the season.

Norwich City have sealed a deal for MK Dons striker Aaron Wilbraham to move up to the Championship.

Buoyant after a hammering of his former club Derby, Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies wants to keep Arsenal loanee Aaron Ramsey for longer.

Portsmouth are set to keep Wolves full-back Greg Halford on loan for the rest of the season.

Managerless Preston North End will sign Iain Hume permanently from Barnsley when the window opens while allowing Richard Chaplow to join Southampton.

QPR have strengthened for a promotion push with the capture of Norway international Petter Vaagan Moen from SK Brann.

Manager Ian Baraclough has ruled out a move to bring striker Paul Hayes back to Scunthorpe United from Preston.
