'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Sky Blue Year: June/ July

Aidy Boothroyd spent the summer months shaping the Coventry City squad in his own image after taking over from Chris Coleman as manager.

Those supporters sceptical about Boothroyd's arrival were certainly cheered when he made former hero Gary McSheffrey his first signing.

'I know about Gary's affiliation with Coventry City and while that's a very positive thing, we are bringing him in because of his qualities as a player and a character, not just because he is a local lad,' said Boothroyd, who followed up that deal with moves for another six players.

Defenders Stephen O'Halloran and Richard Keogh, midfielders Lee Carsley (for a second stint with the Sky Blues) and strikers Clive Platt, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Roy O'Donovan also arrived.

Much of the media focus on the club however revolved around another player. Marlon King was released from prison at the end of July and given his previous association with Boothroyd was being tipped for a move to the Ricoh Arena.
