'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Sky Blue Year: April/May

Poised for a promotion push at the end of February, Coventry City instead ended the season without a win in eleven games, spelling the end of Chris Coleman's reign at the club.

A second successive Easter horror show brought defeats at home to Derby and away to Reading before a reverse at Sheffield United and draws against Middlesbrough and Preston North End.

Even then Coleman may have gained a reprieve with an upbeat final day performance at the Ricoh but instead his side crashed at home to Watford while fans favourite Marcus Hall was left on the bench on his final matchday with the club.

'It is not good enough and I apologise,' said Coleman afterwards, aware perhaps that the writing was on the wall.

'The players went out after the game to say thank you to the supporters but if I had been a supporter, I would have gone. In fact, I would have gone before the end.'

A host of names from home and abroad were linked with the job but to general surprise, chairman Ray Ranson opted to appoint former Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd.

Ranson said: 'He is considered to be one of the brightest young managers in the English game and we believe he can take us to the next level.

'We look forward to working with him in the coming weeks, months and years as we bid to get Coventry City back where it belongs.'
