'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Sky Blue Year: March

Starved of anything approaching success for so long, the merest whiff of a play-off place saw several thousand Coventry City fans make the trip to Peterborough for the first game in March.

Jon Stead's strike settled the game and pushed the Sky Blues to within three points of the top-six.

'There was no chance of us taking Peterborough lightly because they are bottom of the league,' said Chris Coleman afterwards.

'We got the battle we expected but, that said, I can't remember us being under too much pressure or our keeper having to make too many saves.

'We have been making a habit of keeping clean sheets lately and a lot of praise for that must go to the defence.'

With eleven games left to play, few would have foreseen that this was the last time City would pick up three points in the 2009/10 season.

A late home defeat to Cardiff was cruel and a live TV audience saw a brave fightback from two goals down at Leicester but those results, coupled with a narrow loss at West Brom and home draws against Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday sentenced City to another season in the Championship.

For Chris Coleman, things were about to get a whole lot worse.
