The Sky Blue Year: February

The Sky Blue Year: February

The opening day of the month saw Leon Best complete a deadline move to Newcastle United, chairman Ray Ranson saying: 'when it was apparent that we couldn't agree terms for him to remain at Coventry, we knew we would have to listen to offers and act in the best interests of the club.'

Best came on as a late substitute for his new side as the runaway leaders beat the Sky Blues 4-1 later in February but prior to that City had shown much improved form, drawing at Bristol City and scoring impressive home wins against Nottingham Forest (with James McPake superb) and QPR.

Coleman's side, boosted by the loan signings of striker Freddie Sears and Jon Stead, recovered quickly from defeat at St James' Park to take maximum points from games against Crystal Palace (away) and Scunthorpe (home).

Suddenly, a team that had looked set to be fighting a relegation battle just two months earlier were now mounting a play-off push.
