The Sky Blue Year: January

Having survived in the hotseat through a 10-game spell without a win, Chris Coleman's Coventry City entered January in better spirits and immediately made an impact with a 1-1 draw away to Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

The club's hard work in getting on their next fixture, at home to Barnsley, was rewarded with a comfortable win before the TV cameras recorded the cruellest of late defeats to Pompey in the cup replay. Avram Grant's side would go on to contest the Wembley final.

Controversy reigned in a 3-2 defeat at Ipswich that saw two goals scored after the end of the allotted injury time period before draws against play-off chasing duo Swansea and Blackpool.

Off the pitch, the slow evolution of the squad under Coleman and Ray Ranson continued as Richard Wood and Chris Hussey made their loan moves permanent and Gary Deegan and Carl Baker signed from Bohemians and Stockport County respectively. Coleman said of Baker: "We have been looking at him for some time and others have been tracking him."
