McSheffrey eyes 50 and a Sky Blue stay

Aidy Boothroyd got Coventry City supporters on his side straight away by making Gary McSheffrey his first signing as the club's boss and after a slow start to his second spell as a Sky Blue, the returning hero is now on the verge of scoring his 50th league goal in the club's colours.

5 of those have come since re-signing in the summer on an initial 12-month deal which perhaps reflected the fact that injuries have hampered McSheffrey's career over the past couple of seasons.

Now though he is playing his part in an encouraging start to life under Boothroyd and confident of notching up a whole lot more appearances and goals for his hometown club.

He told skysports.com of the option of a contract extension: 'It's not really a case of if I do well, it's just the second year kicking in is a personal term.

'It's not really an option on the club's behalf, it's just a set amount of games and then it will kick in. We will have to see what happens.'
