'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Smash and grab sinks City

Coventry City suffered their first home defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 2-1 to struggling Preston North End with Aron Gunnarsson netting for the hosts.

The Sky Blues created numerous other chances to take either one or three points, denied on a host of occasions by visiting goalkeeper Andy Lonergan who was in inspired form.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd afterwards bemoaned two lapses of concentration during the first-half which handed Preston an unlikely lead at the break.

He praised his side's effort however as well as the number of opportunities created and also backed Marlon King, who looked sharp after coming on as a substitute, to be a big hit at the Ricoh Arena.

"We've dominated the whole game but you have to get the fundamentals right and we didn't," added the City manager.

"I've been involved in a lot of games and I cannot remember a more one-sided game, so you come in and shake your head, but that's how it is. That is football."
