How (not) to sign a striker

So the news this Friday about Marlon King signing for Coventry City is exactly the same as the news last Friday about Marlon King signing for Coventry City, that is that there is no news.

Aidy Boothroyd's assertion that the King saga is like a soap opera is wide of the mark. A mystery is the better analogy because all the way through, the Sky Blues have kept everybody in the dark about what the sticking point is.

Into that information vacuum has stepped King's agent, who has been able to portray his player as the innocent (for want of a better word) party as he waits heroically on the sidelines at Ryton, just waiting for the call to lead Coventry City to the Premiership and beyond.

By not making a single statement on the saga between last weekend and this, City run the risk of being hugely criticised for not signing a player who, just a few weeeks ago they were being criticised for being about to sign!

The club may not be at fault for the delay but by not coming out and stating their case they perpetuate the familiar feeling among fans of having seen it all before.
