Are Westwood options running out?

Keiren Westwood was shown that no-one is irreplaceable by Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd on Saturday, dropped to the bench for the game against Millwall and warned that he must decide on his Sky Blues future before the club's next game.

Iain Turner is set to extend his loan stay at the Ricoh Arena and provide Westwood with the first serious competition for his place since his arrival from Carlisle United.

A deadline day move for the Ireland international looks increasingly unlikely as his most likely destinations, Sunderland and Celtic do not appear to be in the market for a new goalkeeper.

The Black Cats have given Belgian youngster Simon Mignolet his big chance in the absence of the injured Craig Gordon and he has responded with an increasingly confident series of performances which culminated in a superb display against Manchester City at the weekend.

Celtic meanwhile handed Fraser Forster his first start on Sunday at Motherwell after signing the towering Newcastle man on loan.

There do not appear to be too many Premier League teams in need of a first-choice keeper leaving Westwood in danger of kicking his heels for the next few months until the January window if he chooses to run his contract down, as Boothroyd looks set to keep him on the bench if he doesn't get a commitment from the player.
