Boothroyd beams as Mackay fumes

Boothroyd beams as Mackay fumes

A late, late fightback earned Coventry City a point at Watford on Saturday and manager Aidy Boothroyd praised the way his new side stayed in the game despite trailing to his former club.

'At one point I thought it was going to be 3-0 or 4-0, but we managed to get a foothold in the game, grind our way back in it and in the end we could have won it quite easily,' was his verdict after the Sky Blues shrugged off the loss of two goalkeepers, Keiren Westwood pre-match due to a family bereavement and on-loan Iain Turner who was taken off after 18 minutes.

Turner's injury and the replacement of referee Trevor Kettle contributed to a late finish at Vicarage Road and home boss Malky Mackay was none too happy with the penalty awarded by substitute official Matt Stewart.

'I've watched the DVD three or four times and there's no pull in there,' he fumed.

'There's an awful lot of bodies in that area and he sees someone diving thrown his hands up.

'Again, it's the old one where you can tell when somebody's falling, whether they're falling to break their fall or they've got two hands above their head and the boy had two hands above his head and, again, someone with more experience would have noticed that.'
