'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Defender on his way

23 year old Richard Keogh is to join the Sky Blues this week after rejecting a two year deal from Carlisle.

He is an attacking right back who can also play in the centre of defence.

As Keogh is under 24 a transfer fee will be involved and the clubs are negotiating a deal.

He was voted Carlisle United's Players' Player of the year last season.

Brunton Park boss Greg Abbott was quoted recently as saying: "We made a good offer to Richard and we wanted him to stay, but we felt that he had probably made his mind up the longer this went on.

"We've been working away behind the scenes just in case this was the final decision to make sure that we were ready to react.

We're in a position to do that, so all we can say now is that he has been fantastic for us and that we wish him all the best."

A number of League One clubs had been linked with Keogh but Abbott had felt the full-back would be doing himself a diservice by not taking a step up where he to leave Cumbria.
