'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Posh preparing to sell City targets?

Having claimed in December that Coventry City were keen on strikers Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith, Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has again been talking about the pair's future as Posh prepare for life in League One.

'Coventry told me straight after our game there on Saturday they wanted to sign Aaron and Craig in January so I told them our asking price,' Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph after his side's defeat at the Ricoh Arena.

'They are going to discuss it at a board meeting and get back to me but believe me there isn't enough money in Coventry to get either of them.'

Fry's tack has changed slightly after a period of turmoil at London Road that has seen outbursts from his chairman and another managerial departure.

'If the manager is using a system that leaves Craig and Aaron on the bench then we might as well cash in on an asset,' he told his local 'paper this week.

'There has been far more interest in Craig than Aaron though.'

The Sky Blues have signed Freddie Sears and Jon Stead since then of course although Sears' move is unlikely to be made permanent in the summer and there could yet be a space for another striker in Chris Coleman's squad.
