City v Scunthorpe: reversal of Sky Blue fortunes?

Coventry City host Scunthorpe United this weekend on the back of an excellent win at Crystal Palace and in far better shape than many would have predicted after the reverse fixture between the two sides.

Defeat at Scunthorpe late last year made it nine games without a win for the Sky Blues and although the following game against Newcastle extended that run to double figures it was the Glanford Park reverse that saw Chris Coleman's job security being questioned for the first time.

Coleman cut a forlorn figure in front of the Sky cameras that day as his side missed some glorious early chances and then failed to battle back from Scunthorpe taking the lead.

He maintained the hope that City would improve once players returned from injury and has seen that borne out with the Sky Blues tasting defeat on just four occasions in the fourteen league games that have followed.

A win over the same opponents on Saturday will keep alive faint play-off hopes, something that would have been inconceivable in early December to those fans huddled in the away end at Glanford Park or drowning their sorrows in front of a big screen back in Coventry.
