Woes of others highlight City progress

Coventry City continue to frustrate their fans with inconsistent performances on the field, but the woes of other clubs put into perspective the progress that has been made since the takeover in December 2007.

Key to that of course is the Sky Blues' lack of debt, something that Chris Coleman and Ray Ranson have been keen to emphasise.

It's not a sexy subject, certainly not as sexy as the arrival of big-name players to the Ricoh Arena but, within the financial constraints imposed by continuing low crowds, Coleman has been building a squad of players that is unrecognisable from when he took over.

Portsmouth may be playing in the FA Cup 4th Round this weekend but the very future of City's 3rd Round opponents is under threat, with Sol Campbell the latest to strike a blow at the club as he threatens legal action for outstanding money owed to him.

And on Friday, Derby County fans woke up to damaging headlines about their club, with The Mirror claiming that the entire Rams' squad is up for sale.

City's progress may be painfully slow, but it is progress all the same and as others fall by the wayside that will hopefully become clearer to a wider audience.
