Window watch: Baker completes City's good week

Coventry City hit the ground running upon this week's opening of the transfer window, making permanent loan deals for defenders Chris Hussey and Richard Wood, completing a deal for Bohemians Gary Deegan and then adding another midfielder to their squad when snapping up Carl Baker from Stockport County.

Deegan and Baker come to the Ricoh Arena hungry to show what they can do at a higher level of football, Deegan having starred for Bohemians as they won the Irish league title and Baker having netted 13 goals already this season for League One basement boys Stockport County.

Added to the new signings was the apparent cooling of interest in star goalkeeper Kieren Westwood as both Sunderland and Everton weigh up their options.

No interest has ben reported either in Leon Best so, despite Jack Cork and Patrick Van Aanholt having returned to Chelsea following their loan spells, City have competition for places in many areas of the field as they prepare for some important games.

Chris Coleman remains keen to add another striker to his squad in addition to doing a permanent deal for Carlisle United youngster Gary Madine, who has shown a raw ability on his substitute appearances to date.
