Championship: Loan deadline round-up

Thursday represented the last chance for Championship clubs to strengthen their squads for the busy December period, with the loan window closing until the new year.

The Sky Blues allowed youngster Ashley Cain to join Luton Town on loan but, with players gradually coming back from injury, opted not to make any new signings themselves.

Sheffield United, linked strongly with Elliott Ward on deadline day, opted instead to sign Finnish defender Toni Kallio from Fulham as well as adding Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Across the city, Wednesday used the funds freed up by Richard Wood's move to the Ricoh Arena to land Stoke midfielder Tom Soares and striker Warren Feeney from Cardiff City.

Ex-City man Stern John meanwhile is on the move again, joining Ipswich for a month while Barry Bannan (Aston Villa to Blackpool) and DJ Campbell (Leicester to Derby) have also changed clubs.

Hmmm Tom Soares is a good move for Wednesday and I expect Barry Bannan to add some steel to Blackpool....

do hope Ashley Cain can benefit from regular football and you do wonder if not playing in a reserve league does impact on players within the current vogue of playing just the odd 'friendly' game
