Patience pays off for Sky Blues

Coventry City's patience in their pursuit of Richard Wood looks to have paid off with a deal being done to bring the centre-half to the Ricoh Arena on loan with a view to a permanent move.

Sheffield Wednesday fans may not be too upset to lose the player, citing his tendency to make mistakes, but Wood is battle-hardened in the Championship and, aged just 24, has plenty of scope to improve over the next few years.

Having rejected what was described as a 'double your money' deal at Hillsborough, the player leaves himself open to money-grabbing accusations but it's very hard to see that he will have made himself considerably richer by swapping S6 for CV6.

For whatever reason he has chosen to leave the club where he has spent the whole of his career to date and has obviously seen enough in talks with Chris Coleman and Ray Ranson to make the move.

That represents a decent signing for the club and proof that there are long-term targets in place and that the manager and chairman continue to work together well.

It's slow progress, but it is progress all the same.
