'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Sky Blue decade: 2000

Year In Brief: The start of the decade promised so much as possibly the best ever Sky Blues side, containing the likes of Robbie Keane, Gary McAllister, Youssef Chippo and Mustapha Hadji turned in some scintilliating home displays that saw Sky TV dub City as 'the entertainers'.

Away form was patchy but spirits were high going into the 2000/01 season...

High Point: The 4-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday on 06 May 2000 encapsulated everything good about the season and also gave fans to bid an emotional farewell to big Oggy after the last of his 601 appearances for the club.

Low Point: Inter Milan's £13m bid was too good to turn down but Keane's departure was a massive blow to everyone connected with the club.

Brief Encounter: Despite spending just one season with the club, Keane's name is always to the fore when fans name their greatest ever City XI.

Quote Unquote: 'I'm just hoping Robbie doesn't like the San Siro, doesn't like the wages and wants to come back here,' said Gordon Strachan as the striker's move to Italy drew closer.
