Carlisle to Coventry: Can Madine make it?

On the fringes of the first team at League One Carlisle United this time last week, striker Gary Madine will be in the Coventry City squad for their Midlands derby with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

'A permanent move here would be brilliant for my career,' he told the Carlisle News & Star in a frank interview after making a loan switch to the Ricoh Arena, in which he touches on his recent fine for being drunk and disorderly, his affection for the Brunton Park club and the nervousness he felt at being named as a substitute for Tuesday night's game with Carlisle.

Having burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old, early in 2008, big things have been expected of Madine ever since, but Carlisle's fortunes have dipped since then, making it more difficult it seems for him to have made an impact, hence a league record for the Cumbrians which reads as follows; 1 start, 31 substitute appearances, 1 goal.

Two straight defeats for the Sky Blues mean Madine is not coming into a club on a high either and his signing is not one to excite the fans ahead of the Baggies game.

Lets hope however that the promise that saw Madine linked with hometown club Newcastle before making his senior debut can start to be fulfilled in Coventry.
