Championship: Millers boss set for Tykes

Championship: Millers boss set for Tykes

After parting company with Simon Davey at the weekend, Barnsley have looked close to home for their new manager.

Mark Robins, currently in charge of South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United, has been placed on 'gardening leave' by the Millers while he holds talks over the Oakwell vacancy.

Having done well in challenging circumstances with Rotherham, 39-year-old former Manchester United striker Robins fits the Barnsley bill, with the Tykes looking for a talented young manager to replace Davey.

The Tykes have lost four of their five games to date in the league this season, including a 2-0 home reverse against Coventry City, after which Davey said: 'We didn't play well and didn't create enough chances.

'The performance wasn't acceptable and a few players have to look over their shoulders.'
