Deadline day: Sky Blues to go down loan route?

Deadline day: Sky Blues to go down loan route?

Deadline day passed quietly for Coventry City, no new faces coming in to the Ricoh Arena and only Leon McKenzie departing after being offered a deal until the end of the season by Charlton Athletic.

Having opted not to follow the path of loan signings for most of last season, the Sky Blues will now have to do so if they want reinforcements before January, adding to the earlier signings of Jack Cork and his Chelsea team-mate Patrick van Aanholt.

No-one is questioning the quality that the Stamford Bridge youngsters have but they are unlikely to become permanent City players unless the club made it back into the Premier League, a distant prospect at present.

To that end it is a shame to see the policy of buying players from the lower divisions who were hungry to improve, looks to have been ditched.

Scott Dann, Daniel Fox and Keiren Westwood all arrived this way and as well as being key players last season, Dann and Fox generated healthy profits when sold on.

Now City look to have abandoned a clear transfer policy in favour of a mixed bag of loan signings and journeymen, if the reports linking them with the likes of Chris Killen and Hameur Bouazza on deadline day were near the truth.
