A-Z of Coventry City transfers: H for 'Harrods'

The 1987 FA Cup win was supposed to be the beginning of the good times for Coventry City.

After breaking the club's long trophy drought surely more success was to follow, only without the 100+ year wait this time.

John Sillett certainly thought so.

Taking over sole control of first-team affairs he stated that the Sky Blues would now be 'shopping at Harrods rather than Woolworths'.

David Speedie arrived that summer for £780,000 and Sillett broke the club's transfer record twice more for Kevin Drinkell and Kevin Gallacher but a constant stream of top-class players never arrived at Highfield Road as the cup win was never built upon, meaning money remained tight.

It wasn't until Ron Atkinson came to the club that a manager was given virtually a free rein in the transfer market.
