Best impresses for Irish

Both Leon Best and Keiren Westwood of Coventry City made their international debuts on Friday night, as the Republic of Ireland drew 1-1 with Nigeria.

Westwood enjoyed a quiet time in goal after replacing Shay Given but Best caught the eye with his display, going close on a couple of occasions and providing an effective foil to ex-Sky Blues star Robbie Keane, who netted Ireland's equaliser.

With Caleb Folan struggling to be fit for next week's crucial qualifier against Bulgaria, Best could get his chance to shine on the World Cup stage.

'I am happy enough with our performance, particularly in the first half,' said Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni afterwards.
