'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coleman pleased/Davey deflated

Chris Coleman praised his Coventry City side for their efforts after the 1-1 draw against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

We kept going and kept going and we got a point,' he said after Elliott Ward scored a hotly-disputed penalty in injury-time.

The result leaves Barnsley needing points to avoid the drop, with Coleman denying his old friend Simon Davey an easier end to the season.

'It's harsh for Simon,' added the Sky Blues boss.

'We have all been there. It will be a tough one for him to swallow I imagine.

'He is good enough to keep Barnsley up in the league and he is big enough to take any criticism.'

Davey's players were furious about the penalty award but their manager urged his side to move on for the last two games of the season.

'I thought we did enough to win and take the three points,' was his verdict.

'We had some great chances and got our goal early and when we needed to defend we defended. It's cruel.

'We have got to make sure the result and the lateness of the penalty does not affect us. We know what we've got to do to make sure of our status.'

I think Davey is hangin on by the ends of his finger nails, fair play to your lads, they kept going til the death and it paid off.

Typical end of season result when there is nothing at stake. . . . .for you guys anyway, hung in there well though.
