In the Championship: Swans boss honoured

Roberto Martinez has engineered a superb first season in the Championship for his Swansea City side and is the latest recipient of the manager of the month award.

The Swans, who have received plenty of plaudits for their excellent football, picked up 10 points out of 12 in January and also knocked holders Portsmouth out of the FA Cup.

'It is incredible what they are doing and I think Roberto is manager of the year, never mind manager of the month,' said Wales manager and former Swansea supremo John Toshack.

'When the season started, I thought if Roberto could keep the side out of the bottom six at the end of the season, he would have done a terrific job.

'Swansea really have surpassed anything that I thought they could have done, but it's still a very difficult time of the season to go.

'Darren Pratley and Ferrie Bodde are big, big misses for them. I just hope it doesn't take away what they have achieved up to now.'

The Sky Blues drew twice with Swansea in the space of just over a month recently, results that look decent given the way the Welsh side have performed.
