Adams: Doyle should stay at City

Coventry City manager Micky Adams believes key midfielder Michael Doyle will be best served by signing a new contract at the Ricoh Arena when his current deal expires in the summer.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form recently and Adams told the Coventry Evening Telegraph: 'I would think and suggest that Michael Doyle has other offers but I can't do anything about that.

'We have allowed his contract to run without discussing an extension, and he has now, perhaps, got the upper hand.

'But what would he want to leave here for? Where would he go?

'People want to stay at this football club for all the right reasons now. I don't think they did before.

'If I was to look at the clubs that he could possibly join, I don't think there would be any better than what we have got.'

Doyle joined the Sky Blues from Celtic in July 2003 and has notched up 136 appearances for the club since then.

'If he does go then we have to shake hands and say 'thanks very much, we appreciate all you have done for us,' and then move on,' added Adams.

'I am not going to be held to ransom by anybody. We have had that before but it won't happen at this club any more. We don't do that now.'
