Coventry City: Transfer Window Preview

The transfer window opens on Thursday and Coventry City will be hoping to end January with a stronger squad than the one currently in a mid-table position in the Championship.

Chris Coleman has a healthy record to date in the transfer market with Kieren Westwood and Aron Gunnarsson impressive and both Freddy Eastwood and Guillaume Beuzelin showing in patches what they can bring to the team.

Both Coleman, and chairman Ray Ranson will not budge from their policy of signing younger players who are hungry to improve so loan moves and the signing of players who've seen their better days are definitely out.

Livingston's James McPake has already been captured on a pre-contract deal while the vibes are good about Icelandic youngster Johann Berg Gudmundsson completing a switch after an impressive trial period.

"It is still on-going and we are talking about development costs and compensation because he is only 18,' chairman Ranson told the Coventry Telegraph.

Perhaps more important for the Sky Blues at this stage is to raise funds and trim the squad without having to sell any of their key players.

Danny Fox continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League while Westwood is certain to have been noted by the top-flight scouts.

While Coleman will be happy to offload the likes of Kevin Kyle and Gary Borrowdale, keeping his top men together will be as vital as signing new players.
