Championship: latest transfer gossip

Not long until the opening of the transfer window and plenty of Championship clubs are being linked with, or have made moves in the market this week.

Barnsley: loan winger Simon Whaley has returned to Preston North End as Oakwell boss Simon Davey gets ready to strengthen in January.

Blackpool: the Seasiders have snapped up veteran defender Ian Harte on a short-term deal and want to keep Lee Hendrie for longer.

Bristol City: manager Gary Johnson wants some new faces on board in January after a poor run of form.

Crystal Palace: Neil Warnock hopes to bring back former loan stars Craig Beattie and Scott Sinclair in the New Year.

Ipswich Town: Dean Shiels of Hibernian is being linked with a move to Portman Road.

Norwich City: Free agent striker Carl Cort has signed a deal until the end of the season with the Canaries.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk, 'About this time last year I was considering calling it a day because I've had a series of problems with my knee for several years now.

'I think it got to a certain point where I don't think everybody understood how bad it was.'

Plymouth Argyle: Japanese midfielder Akihiro Ienaga is training with the Pilgrims.

Sheffield United: Aussie midfielder David Carney has been urged to leave Bramall Lane by his international boss after falling out of favour.

'He knows quite well he has to move because there is no future for him at Sheffield, which is a pity,' Pim Verbeek has been quoted as saying.

Southampton: Jack Cork of Chelsea is keen to extend his loan stay at St Mary's.
