'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Transfer Advent Calendar 3rd Dec: Stephen Warnock

The transfer window opens in 29 days and Vital Coventry is bringing you a new rumour everyday until Christmas Eve concerning Sky Blues past and present or potential new signings.

3rd December: Newcastle United would dearly love to prise Stephen Warnock away from Blackburn Rovers in the New Year, but the Lancashire club are equally determined to hang onto one of their star players.

Joe Kinnear has sent his scouts to Ewood Park on a number of occasions to watch the versatile left-back but may struggle to match the potential riches on offer from Manchester City where former Blackburn boss Mark Hughes remains a big fan of the player.

For now though, the England international is keeping his focus firmly on his current club and their hoped-for push up the Premier League table.

'We know we have a lot of time to turn this around,' he said last week.

'It is not as if we are in the last games of the season, we have two thirds of the season to put this right.

'Come the end of Christmas we'll have a good idea of where we are going to go.'

Warnock won Coventry City's player of the year award in 2004, the culmination of a superb season on loan from Liverpool.
